Trump Update: Senator Resigns, Bill Renamed, But Senate Passes Megabill
After days of negotiations that went late into the night on Tuesday, the Senate passed Donald Trump's enormous tax and spending cuts megabill, bringing the profoundly unpopular piece of legislation one step closer to passage.

At the last minute, minority Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer won a minor victory by having the name of Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" removed, but it was insufficient to prevent its approval; the act was passed mere minutes later.

The law requires approval from the House of Representatives, which previously cleared it by a single vote.  If it passes, Trump will be able to fulfil several of his electoral promises, including making temporary tax cuts from his first term permanent, increasing border protection and defence spending, and increasing oil and gas production.  This will be partially funded by reducing spending on Medicaid and health care programs, food stamps, student loans, and clean energy tax credits.
