Canucks Trade Goaltender Arturs Silovs to Pittsburgh Penguins in Roster Move

Arturs Silovs' time with the Vancouver Canucks has ended.
Vancouver dealt the netminder to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for forward Chase Stillman and a fourth-round pick in the 2027 NHL draft.
In 21 regular-season games with the Abbotsford Canucks of the American Hockey League, Silovs went 14-5-1 with a.908 save percentage and a career-best 2.41 goals-against average. He also participated in 10 NHL games for the Canucks, going 2-6-1 with a 3.65 GAA and.861 save percentage.
The 24-year-old was key to Abbotsford's Calder Cup victory, going 16-7 with a 2.01 goals-against average and.931 save percentage. He also recorded five shutouts in the AHL playoffs and became only the fourth goaltender to be named postseason MVP.
However, with Thatcher Demko and Kevin Lankinen committed to long-term contracts, Silovs' route to the NHL seemed dubious.
"We would like to thank Arturs for everything he has done for the hockey club, including helping Abbotsford win the Calder Cup," general manager Patrik Allvin said in a statement. "We wanted to give him an opportunity somewhere because we believe we are well-positioned in the goal at the NHL, AHL, and developmental levels. Acquiring a future pick and a depth forward will increase our organizational depth.
Stillman played for the AHL's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and Utica Comets, scoring 12 points in 65 games. The New Jersey Devils originally selected Stillman in the first round of the 2021 NHL Draft.
