Cowboys OC Schottenheimer says Micah Parsons needs ramp-up period after return
FRISCO, TX -- Dallas Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer declined to discuss the specifics of his meeting with Micah Parsons on Tuesday after the Pro Bowl edge rusher did not wear his jersey and lay down on a medical table during Friday's preseason game, but he remains confident that Parsons will be available against the Philadelphia Eagles on September 4.

Schottenheimer, for the first time, conceded Parsons' work against the defending Super Bowl champs may be limited if he plays.

"At the end of the day, as soon as he can get out there, that's great, but again, there will be a ramp-up plan for him," Schottenheimer indicated. "And when he lines up to play, do I believe he will play 75 consecutive plays? Possibly not. That does not seem real to me. However, as we all know, he has the potential to be incredibly disruptive.

Parsons has not practiced this summer because he is waiting for a contract extension, which does not look to be happening right now. Even though Terry McLaurin and Trey Hendrickson have concluded their holdouts with the Washington Commanders and Cincinnati Bengals, respectively, nothing has changed in Parsons' talks.

The Cowboys appear to be content with Parsons playing the season on the rookie contract's $21.324 million fifth-year option. Parsons underwent an MRI on his back last Friday, which came back clear, and Schottenheimer stated that "at this time," Parsons is medically cleared to practise. The Cowboys return to practice on Friday after taking the mandated three days off under league regulations. They will have three workouts on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday before travelling to Philadelphia.

"Every day that he can get out there and get reps would be great," Schottenheimer said, "but I do believe that his presence has helped him." It is beneficial to go through some of the walk-throughs and such. There is communication, there are signals from the sidelines, and there is communication between players that he is receiving all of these things.

"But the best way to get better at football is to play football, so I would say as soon as possible would be the desired effect."
