After missing little over a month due to a right shoulder issue, Scherzer was the loser of Wednesday night's Game 3 in Arlington. The 39-year-old right-hander finished strong, striking out the final two batters he faced with a runner on base despite giving up five runs and five hits in four innings of work.

"He is capable of competing and pitching in the real world. Winner of Game 6 Nathan Eovaldi stated, "I think he's definitely going to be a lot better than his last outing." He's been chomping at the bit, eager to go. I am aware that his previous start didn't go as planned, but tomorrow he will perform admirably, befitting a competitor."

Houston's Cristian Javier, who won Game 3 of the Astros' 8-5 victory against the previous World Series champions, will start again in the mound.

In 16 playoff games, the 26-year-old right-hander is 6-1 with a 2.08 ERA and has won all four of his starts. In those four starts, he has only given up five hits and two runs in 22 innings, including two runs and three hits in 5 2/3 innings earlier in this series.

"My mental approach is to remain optimistic and simply go out and compete," Javier stated, noting that there would be no differences in how he approached Game 7. Actually not. The game is exactly the same. same individuals. You just have to compete outside. Nothing has changed.

The Rangers expected these kinds of major games when they acquired Scherzer this season via a trade deadline deal with the New York Mets. However, they also believe they are well enough to support him.

"Well, thanks to Nate's work, we have a full bullpen. Thus, everyone is on deck, according to Rangers manager Bruce Bochy. "All of them are accessible. You observe matchups and similar stuff, but everything is operational.

Starting on five different teams, Scherzer will be making his 24th postseason appearance. In that 2019 World Series, he only appeared in one Game 7—a 6-2 victory for the Nationals—where he gave up two runs in five innings without receiving the decision. In that Series, he had won Game 1 but was forced to sit out the next game after receiving a cortisone shot due to nerve discomfort near his neck.

The most crucial thing, according to Scherzer, was that his arm felt fine following Game 3 of this ALCS for the Rangers. Although he believed he "had more in the tank," he acknowledged that Bochy was right to pull him with Houston up 5-0.

With a 3.80 ERA and a 7-8 record in the postseason, Scherzer has also appeared for the Detroit, Washington, Los Angeles Dodgers, and New York Mets. David Wells, who pitched for Cincinnati, Baltimore, the Yankees, Boston, and San Diego between 1989 and 2006, was the only other pitcher to start five different clubs in postseason play.
