Bangladesh and Bhutan Optimistic About PTA Potential
Dhaka, February 16, 2025 (BSS) Bangladesh and Bhutan have expressed confidence that they will be able to fully realize the potential of the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) agreed between the two neighbors.

This was noticed when Bhutanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Rinchen Kuentsyl paid a goodbye call to Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin at the State Guest House Padma today, according to a foreign ministry press release.

During the discussion, both sides spoke about many areas of bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Bhutan.

They also talked about the prospects created by the signed MoU on Cooperation for the establishment of a Bhutanese Special Economic Zone in Kurigram.

The Foreign Secretary stated that Bhutan holds a unique place in the hearts of the Bangladeshi people because it was the first country to acknowledge Bangladesh.

He stated that the relationships have grown in depth and dimension throughout time, with cooperation growing into areas like trade and business, power, education, cultural exchange, and people-to-people ties.

However, Jashim stated that there is still an enormous opportunity to strengthen bilateral collaboration.

The Ambassador emphasized Bhutan's commitment to improving ties with Bangladesh through kindness and shared interests.

Both sides recognized that Bangladesh and Bhutan have tremendous prospects for regional collaboration, mainly through SAARC and BIMSTEC.

Later, the foreign minister threw a goodbye luncheon in celebration of the departing envoy.
