Second Son of Samoan Family Dies Amid Dengue Outbreak
A 2-year-old kid is the latest victim of Samoa's dengue fever outbreak.
The boy passed only three days after his older brother, 9, died of the same ailment last week.

The boys' aunty posted a single word on social media: "Aiseā?". - Why?
She also posted a recent snapshot of her happy nephews with their young parents at a family restaurant.

It is believed that their father has been working overseas and is returning home to be with his wife. The two boys are their only offspring.

The message has been widely shared by the Samoan community on the islands and abroad.

Increased death toll: 5
Samoa's dengue fever death toll is now officially four, with the fifth fatality being classified as a suspected case of dengue fever at this time, according to authorities. Everyone has been a child.

Samoan Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mata'afa expressed the country's sadness at losing yet another child to dengue.

"On behalf of the Government and the people of Samoa, I extend our deepest condolences to the parents and families of the children we have lost," she told the audience.

"Our children are precious to us, and the loss of a young soul is devastating. May the Holy Spirit comfort the parents and families of the children who have passed away. We remember you throughout these difficult times.

Dengue fever, often known as break-bone fever, is a viral ailment transmitted from mosquitoes to humans. Symptoms include a sudden high fever, severe joint and muscular pain, pain behind the eyes, and a rash.

Fumigation operations have been carried out countrywide, and schools have been closed as a result of the outbreak.

As of Sunday, 5670 clinically diagnosed cases have been reported since January, with slightly more than 2600 of those being laboratory-confirmed.

Over the last week, 1446 new clinically diagnosed cases have been recorded across Samoa's main islands of Upolu and Savai'i, with 342 new lab-confirmed cases.

New Zealand health authorities have also documented an increase in dengue fever infections since the beginning of the year, with 34 confirmed cases reported in Auckland last month among persons returning to the country.

Dr Susan Jack, national clinical director of the National Public Health Service, stated that around half of those infections were acquired in Samoa.

According to the most recent numbers, 103 cases of dengue fever have been recorded in Auckland since January. This statistic is more than double the total number of cases registered previous year, when 54 were recorded.

Fiame also urged parents and families to heed official health recommendations and avoid traditional dengue fever treatments.
"Parents and guardians, if your child develops dengue fever symptoms, seek medical attention immediately.""Do not "leave it until it is too late. Early intervention can save lives.
