Apple Leak: 45W MagSafe May Bring Faster Charging to iPhone 17

Apple iPhone customers who have been waiting for higher wireless charging speeds may now have something to be excited about. According to a Taiwanese regulatory filing, Apple is going to offer two new MagSafe chargers that will charge most iPhones significantly faster.
The new chargers, model codes A3503 (2m cable) and A3502 (1m cable), support the future Qi 2.2 standard, which is intended to enable wireless charging at speeds of up to 50W.
Apple may not choose the maximum limit supported by the standard, however. Based on the photographs of the white charging puck in the file, 91Mobiles anticipates it to enable speeds of up to 45W.
That remains a significant improvement over the current Qi2-certified MagSafe devices, which were released alongside the iPhone 16 series last year. When used with a 30W power adapter, these models can deliver up to 25W to the iPhone 16 Plus and Pro Max, respectively. Without it, charging is limited to Qi 2's 15W.
According to 91Mobile, the new Qi 2.2-based MagSafe charger has been tested on both the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 11. Therefore, compatibility should extend to iPhone 11 and later; however, based on past trends, Apple may reserve the fastest charging speed for the iPhone 17 series.
It is unclear whether the increased charging speed will lead to a price increase for the MagSafe charger. Currently, the 1-meter cable variant costs $39, while the 2-meter variant costs $49.
Apple has made significant contributions to the Qi charging standard, lending its MagSafe technology to the development of the standard, which is now overseen by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC).
