Google Translate Introduces Conversation Mode in 70+ Languages to Help Users Practise Speaking Skills
  1. Google's famous Translate app now includes two new functions that are powered by powerful voice and speech recognition models.

Google Translate now offers two new AI-powered capabilities. According to Google, consumers can translate around one trillion words using Google Translate, Search, and visual translations via Lens and Circle to Search. The new features are designed to assist users with live interactions and language learning, and they are supported by Gemini models' superior reasoning and multimodal capabilities.

To help users engage meaningfully with people from other cultures, Google has added the ability to have a back-and-forth discussion in real time with audio and on-screen translations via the Translate app. Google stated that it has enhanced the existing live discussion experience.

The company's powerful AI models now make it easier to have a live discussion in over 70 languages, including Hindi, Arabic, French, Korean, Spanish, and Tamil. The new live translation capability is currently accessible in the United States, India, and Mexico.

To use Live Translate
📌 go to the Translate app for Android or iOS.
📌Tap on 'Live Translate'.
📌Select languages to translate.
📌 Begin speaking. Tap on 'Live Translate'.
📌Select languages to translate.
📌 Begin speaking.

Users will hear the translation spoken aloud and see a transcript of the chat in both languages on their device. The feature seamlessly transitions between two languages, making talks feel natural. Google says Translate can now recognise conversational pauses, accents, and intonations. This is feasible because Translate's live features are supported by Google's powerful voice and speech recognition models, which have been taught to help isolate sounds. This ensures a high-quality experience for users regardless of their location.

Aside from live translations, Google is testing a new language practice option to assist users in achieving their specific learning requirements. Translate can now provide targeted listening and speaking practice sessions for early learners, those wishing to practise conversation, and even established speakers looking to brush up on their vocabulary. Google claims that these interactive activities are generated in real time and dynamically adapt to a user's ability level. To utilise the feature, follow the steps below.

Select 'practice' on the app
📌Choose your skill level and goal, and Translation will generate tailored experiences.

In each scenario, a user can either listen to talks and touch on words to improve comprehension, or they can practise speaking with helpful recommendations. The function was created in collaboration with learning specialists using the most recent language acquisition research. Users can also track their daily progress and confidently learn another language.
