Garmin Warns of Watch Boot Loop Bug Issue
Garmin watches users claim that their wearables are stuck in a boot loop on Reddit.
In the last several hours, there has been a flurry of posts from Garmin users whose watches have become stuck on the triangular boot/load screen.
"This morning at the pool, as I was scrolling through activities to select swim it crashed and has been stuck in a reboot loop where the logo just keeps coming on and disappearing," a user on Reddit writes.
I approached Garmin for comment on the incident, and they provided the following statement:
"Garmin is looking into reports of devices flashing a blue triangle when starting a GPS activity. Pressing and holding the power button may restore functioning. We will share further information on a permanent solution when it becomes available."
Some Reddit users have already received a response from Garmin customer care.
"We have added you to an open investigation that will be used to determine the cause of this issue, which we are currently looking into," quistodes claims Garmin told them.
An update has also been made on Garmin's Japanese website: "Currently, a bug has been reported worldwide in some Garmin devices where a triangle icon suddenly appears on the screen during use and then flashes."
"We are looking into this matter further and appreciate your patience... "We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause."
Garmin Watch Outage: Affected Models
The following models are affected:
- Garmin Forerunner series
- Garmin vivoactive 5
- Garmin Venu 3
- Garmin Edge 1040
- Garmin Descent Mk3
- Garmin Epix Gen2
- Garmin fenix 7 series
- Garmin Instinct 3 series
Garmin owners have also posted photos of their watches locked in a triangle boot loop to X.
I'm using the Garmin Instinct 3, and it's not stuck in a boot loop—at least not right now. I took the Garmin Fenix 8 and Instinct 3 for a run on the day this issue became widely publicized, and neither had the "triangle" crash.
X user Herbie Vine thinks the problem is with the watch's GPS connection. He proposes hard resetting the device to make it work again. The specific technique varies depending on the model; however, instructions can be found on the Garmin website.
