Nissan Announces Major Recall Due to Faulty Engine Part

Nissan is recalling approximately 443,900 vehicles in the United States, including models under its Nissan and Infiniti brands, due to a faulty component that may cause engine failure.
Engine bearings in the recalled 2021-2024 Nissan Rogue, 2019-2020 Nissan Altima, 2019-2022 Infiniti QX50, and 2022 Infiniti QX55 vehicles may have a "manufacturing defect" that could "cause engine damage and potentially lead to engine failure," according to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recall report.
The issue, according to the recall notice, was "specific" to vehicles equipped with a 3-cylinder 1.5-liter or 4-cylinder 2.0-liter variable compression turbo engine.
According to the recall report, owners may notice "abnormal noise" from the engine compartment, rough running, malfunction indicator lights, or instrument cluster warning messages if their vehicle's bearings are failing.
Over 37,800 model years 2021-2024. Nissan Rogue (2019–2020), Nissan Altima (2019–2022). According to Nissan, the Infiniti QX50 and 2022 Infiniti QX55 vehicles are also being recalled in Canada due to the same engine issue.
The carmaker informed FOX Business that the recall was "part of Nissan Group's ongoing commitment to customer safety."
"A remedy is available, and owners of affected vehicles will receive a notification letter beginning on August 22, 2025, with instructions to bring their vehicle to a Nissan dealer or INFINITI retailer for inspection and repair if necessary," the company stated.
Suppose no debris is discovered during the inspection. In that case, dealership staff will replace the oil pan gasket and engine oil, as well as reprogram the engine control module in recalled vehicles with 3-cylinder 1.5-liter variable compression engines, according to the NHTSA recall report. In the same situation, they will change the engine oil in 4-cylinder 2.0-liter variable compression engines that are free of debris.
The NHTSA report stated that an engine replacement will take place "if specific debris is detected and confirmed by Nissan Powertrain Call Center."
The assessment and repairs will be free of charge to impacted clients.
