UK to Be Hit by Wall of Snow in Coming Days – These Areas Will Be Free from Flurries
According to fresh estimates, snow will cover much of the UK in just a few days.
WXCharts weather maps show a bitter wintry front sweeping over the country on Thursday, December 12, with temperatures falling. Some of the worst-hit locations around the Scottish Borders could receive up to 10 cm of snow, while northwest England, coastal Wales, and much of Northern Ireland could also see large accumulations. However, certain places, including Yorkshire, East Anglia, the Midlands, and southeast England, will be spared the snowfall. Rain is also expected in the southwest.
Minimum temperatures are expected to be -1C in the Highlands, 0C-1C in northern England, 1C-2C in Wales and the Midlands, and 3C-4C in the south. Meanwhile, WX Charts maps show a temperature of 1C in Northern Ireland.
Netweather's long-range forecast predicts a more unsettled weather pattern between December 9 and 17, with the risk of more cold snaps in the north. The statement continues: "This means that there could be snow for some, particularly on high ground and in the north."
It comes after bookmakers predicted that next month would be the coldest December on record. After being a 4/1 chance earlier this week, the odds have been cut in half to only 2/1 on a record-breaking chilly December.
Aside from that, there is still a 50/50 probability that any portion of the UK will get a white Christmas morning. Alex Apati, head of Ladbrokes, commented: "Things are about to get a whole lot colder over the UK, if the latest odds are anything to go by, while a White Christmas is looking increasingly more likely."
In the meanwhile, further rain is expected in the north and west on Friday, with showers moving east by the end of the day. Milder temperatures are also expected across much of the country, with London and Edinburgh hitting 10 degrees Celsius, Cardiff 11 degrees Celsius, and Belfast 13 degrees Celsius.
