Celine Dion warns fans about fake AI-generated songs circulating online.
Celine Dion has issued a warning on AI-generated songs that are circulating on the internet.

"It has come to our attention that unsanctioned, AI-generated music purporting to contain Celine Dion's musical performances, and name and likeness, is currently circulating online and across various Digital Service Providers," the Canadian singer wrote on her Instagram account Saturday.

"Please be advised that these recordings are fake and not approved, and are not songs from her official discography."

Although Dion does not name any specific records, the usage of artificial intelligence is a growing cause of dispute in the music industry.

In April 2024, more than 200 artists, including Billie Eilish, Kacey Musgraves, J Balvin, Ja Rule, Jon Bon Jovi, the Jonas Brothers, Katy Perry, and Miranda Lambert, signed an open letter condemning artificial intelligence-related risks to the music industry.

The non-profit Artist Rights Alliance organized the letter, which urged AI developers, technology companies, platforms, and digital music services to "cease the use of artificial intelligence to infringe upon and devalue the rights of human artists."

It focuses on AI concerns such as deepfakes and voice cloning and "irresponsible uses of AI," such as employing AI sound to reduce royalty payments to artists and using musical compositions without permission to train and make AI copycats.

Dion, 56, recently returned to the spotlight after being forced to take a break due to Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS), a rare neurological condition characterized by muscle rigidity and spasms, as well as increased sensitivity to stimuli such as sound, light, and emotional distress, all of which can cause muscle spasms, according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.

In December 2022, she revealed her condition and stated that she was undergoing "athletic, physical, and vocal therapy" five days per week.

Dion made a spectacular comeback to the stage at the Paris Olympics in July 2024, performing Edith Piaf's classic "Hymne à l'Amour" on a platform atop the Eiffel Tower during the opening ceremony.
