Apple Eyes AI Revival With Tabletop Robots, Advanced Siri Upgrade

Though Apple is still in the early stages of overhauling its AI software, executives see the hardware pipeline as a critical component of its revival.
Apple is planning a return for artificial intelligence with a slew of new products, including robots, a lifelike version of Siri, a smart speaker with a display, and home-security cameras.
According to those familiar with the situation, the centerpiece of the AI approach is a tabletop robot that serves as a virtual companion, which is scheduled for release in 2027. Meanwhile, the smart speaker with a display is expected to be released next year as part of a drive into low-cost smart-home devices.
Tim Cook is counting on an ambitious product roadmap to help the company's AI efforts get on track.
It's all part of a plan to resurrect Apple's mojo. Its most recent moonshot attempt, the Vision Pro headset, has been a sales disappointment, and the designs of its best-selling devices have remained mostly untouched for years.
At the same time, Apple has faced criticism for failing to capitalize on the generative AI revolution. OpenAI may even attack Apple's home territory by producing new AI-powered devices with the assistance of former Apple design chief Jony Ive.
Though Apple is still in the early stages of improving its AI software, executives see the hardware pipeline as a critical component of its revival, allowing it to compete with Samsung Electronics Co., Meta Platforms Inc., and others in new categories.
A spokeswoman for Apple, based in Cupertino, California, declined to comment. Because the products have not been announced, the company's intentions may alter or be scrapped. Many of the initiatives and their timing are dependent on Apple's ongoing advancement in AI-powered software.
