Shreyas Iyer Hits Mumbai’s First Ranji Double Century in 9 Years, Sets Personal Best in First-Class Cricket

After Nine-Year Wait, Shreyas Iyer Smashes Double Century in Ranji Trophy Match Against Odisha in Mumbai

Shreyas Iyer made his third First-Class double hundred against Odisha at the BKC Ground in Mumbai on Thursday, making it his second straight hundred in the Ranji Trophy.

The old-fashioned After getting back into shape, the India batter hit a hundred in his last game against Maharashtra in the second round. Before surgery, it had been almost three years, 38 games, and a few runs since Shreyas Iyer scored a first-class hundred. He got the last one on his first Test match, which was in November 2021 against New Zealand in Kanpur.

When the third round came around, Iyer, who is 29 years old, got hurt and couldn't go with Mumbai to Tripura.

Iyer hit 100 in just 101 balls on Day 1, and he was hitting 152 with 18 fours and 4 sixes when the game ended. Iyer was in charge of getting quick runs, and Siddhesh Lad was the playing partner. For Lad's perfect return to Mumbai cricket, he didn't take any unnecessary chances. Mumbai was in complete control after his unbeaten 116 off 234 balls.

After hitting 22 fours and 8 sixes, Iyer got his hundred in just 201 balls. His last double-century in First-Class cricket was an unbeaten 202 against a visiting Australia team before the 2017-18 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Mumbai.

Iyer's last Ranji Trophy double century was in October 2015, later in his second season.

Iyer's hundreds have given him new reasons to want to play for the Indian Test team again. This year, he was on the team when England came to visit, but he chose to rest because of a back problem he had after surgery. "I want to make a comeback, but I will try to control the things I can control." Being in good shape is also part of my job. I need to keep acting and taking part as much as possible. "That's why I'll make the best choice possible," he told The Indian Express earlier in October.
