Premier League 2024-25: Rice declares Arsenal ready to chase Liverpool after dominant win over Man City
Liverpool is six points ahead of second-placed Arsenal with a game in hand and shows no signs of slowing down in its quest for a 20th league title.
Despite a 5-1 thrashing of Manchester City on Sunday, Arsenal sits comfortably behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, but midfielder Declan Rice insists they are determined to catch up.
Rice contributed two assists as Arsenal reminded Liverpool it would not give up the pursuit.
Liverpool is six points ahead of second-placed Arsenal with a game in hand and shows no signs of slowing down in its quest for a 20th league title.
But Rice believes there is still a long way to go.
"Liverpool are still quite far in front especially with the game in hand and with them winning yesterday you know going into the game that you have to win," Rice told Sky Sports during the match.
"It's more disappointing that we dropped points against Aston Villa when we were 2-0 up, because we could have been closer to Liverpool."
"But we'll be there and keep pushing. We need others to aid us, but we know our goal: to track them down and win the Premier League.
"We need to stay positive and I'm sure we will be fine."
Arsenal had come up just short in the previous two seasons, but City held Mikel Arteta's side at bay to extend their title-winning streak to a record four in a row.
On Sunday, goals from Martin Odegaard, Thomas Partey, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Kai Havertz, and Ethan Nwaneri effectively eliminated City from the title race.
"It's a terrific day for us, especially given the importance of winning the game. "I'm very pleased with how we did it," Arteta remarked.
"Overall, we scored some beautiful goals and the team showed a high competitive level."
Arteta admired teenager Lewis-Skelly, whose outstanding performance culminated in his first Arsenal goal.
"To defeat (Manchester City), you need strong individual performances. "Myles was certainly one of them, with his maturity and competitiveness," Arteta remarked.
"He plays with that personality, and he scored a stunning goal. He has been pushing us since he joined us. We enjoy his character and personality. "He has a lot of courage."
