"Sounds Like It's Happening...": Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli's Retirement Talk Caught on Stump Mic

While celebrating their Champions Trophy 2025 victory, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli joked about the Indian captain's retirement.
A central talking point before the Champions Trophy 2025 final was whether India's Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli would retire from ODI cricket after the game. India captain Rohit Sharma has stated that he will not retire from ODI cricket. The 37-year-old led India from the front in the final, scoring 76 and laying the groundwork for the win. In a video released on social media following the triumph, Rohit informs Kohli that he does not want to retire while they celebrate.
"Bhai, I am not retiring; inko lag raha hai. These people think)," Rohit can be heard saying Kohli in Hindi as they both chuckle.
Rohit's form and leadership have come under intense scrutiny following India's twin whammy of Test series losses to New Zealand (0-3 at home) and Australia (1-3 away). However, Rohit has led India flawlessly in ODI cricket while finding form with the bat along the road.
Under Rohit's leadership, India has won 15 of their previous 16 ODIs in important ICC competitions, with the only loss coming in the 2023 World Cup final.
"I will not retire from this format. "Just to make sure no rumors spread moving forward," Rohit said at the end of the post-match news conference.
India had a successful Champions Trophy 2025 campaign, outperforming every team they faced. Even in the final versus New Zealand, a target of 252 never seemed out of reach, and skipper Rohit played a significant role in securing this.
Rohit gave India the perfect start, smashing a half-century during the powerplay and bringing India's total to 64 in the first 10 overs. Rohit's innings ended on 76 from 83 balls.
Rohit scored 180 runs in just five games throughout the competition. His strike rate was 100, which was much higher than that of any other batsman in Team India's top six.
Under Rohit, India has won eight consecutive ODIs in 2025. What began with a clinical 3-0 thrashing of England at home before the Champions Trophy has ended with the Indian players donning the famous white jackets.
While Rohit has stated that he will not retire from ODI cricket, it remains to be seen whether he will maintain this stance in Test cricket. Following the IPL 2025, India will tour England for a five-match Test series.
