Pune: Rs 25 lakh siphoned off from medical college account using fake cheque

B J Government Medical College in Pune was cheated by unidentified persons who siphoned off Rs 25 lakh from the college's account by submitting a bogus cheque.

According to a report published in the Hindustan Times (HT), the incident came to light when the medical college carried out a routine check of the bank statement.

When the college's passbook was updated on October 7, the transfer via cheque on October 6 was noticed.

The medical college lodged a police complaint. A man and his accomplice were booked by the Pune Police for forging a private bank cheque and using it to dupe the medical college.

However, the amount transferred into the bank account of the alleged fraudster was instantly retrieved, according to the police.

A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at Bundgarden police station. No arrest has been made yet and the investigation is on.
